About Genie the Weaver

-->
One of the exhilarating aspects of being an artist is perpetually having opportunities to respond tangibly to experiences through the creation of something which reflects both those moments and oneself.

My weaving studio is nestled in the wine grape country of Oregon's Willamette Valley.  It has three large windows with views of oaks, a grain field, an orchard, a well-loved old farmhouse, flowers and a vineyard.  Within it is a loom, an array of yarns, potential ornaments and one woman passionate about color and fabric.

Clothing has been my main focus.  Although fabric is  woven in a plane, my visions of it are dimensional.  I've explored many techniques, colorways and garment designs later to revisit them in a new light.  Primarily the fabrics are cotton, silk, tencel and rayon working together as I continue to develop new, innovative and intriguing designs.

Over the years I have learned that what captures me most in ours and other cultures will move through my senses, my mind and my hands and emerge in the weaving.

In contrast to Genie’s professionalism in her weaving career, her friends know and appreciate her playful approach to life, exemplified by her annual birthday tradition of joyfully turning cartwheels in the sunshine.  This playfulness and passion for color and fabric make each piece she creates vibrate with lightness and spirit!
